Poem Statement Poster -Lambing Season-

Stage 1 - Assessing Goals and Objectives

The main goal and objective of this project is to aesthetically highlight and represent the overall theme of a poem through a single stanza and title. The particular poem I was assigned was titled "Lambing Season". This poem discusses the limitations of a young women's aspirations. Her dreams are halted for she must work on her family farm. The death of her goals is represented through a 2 headed lamb she helped birth and its unavoidable death.

Stage 3 - Digital Experimentation and Font Research

This process of digital exploration was also challenging as I struggled to find a way to incorporate sheep’s fur into the graphic poster without emulating a sense of comfort and softness. In this experimentation process I ultimately found that photography would be a better option for capturing the eeriness of the poem. As for font exploration, I found that a condensed serif type best established a rustic, farm house aesthetic.

Stage 5 - Implementing Font + Mockup

Stage 2 Hand Drawn Sketches

This process of drawing sketches for the project was a bit challenging considering I was asked to created titles before reading the poem. Once given the text however, I was able to choose which visuals represented the darkness of the poem.

Stage 4 - Photography

The photography stage was extremely successful in the sense that I was able to physically manipulate the elements of the piece. By establishing a fiery lighting and by tearing up pieces of wool felt I was able to capture a dark, eerie and uncomfortable aesthetic.
