Romantic Couple Book Cover - Jack and Sally -

Stage 1 - Assessing Goals & Objectives

 The overall objective behind this project was to create a visually pleasing book cover that captures the essence of the famous couple Jack Skellington and Sally. We were challenged to represent the couple's characteristics without using any features that distinctively represent their physical attributes. Overall my objective was to represent Sally's quest for romance with Jack but the limitations she experiences because of Jack's obsession with Christmas.

Stage 2 - Sketching Process

During this stage Bailey experimented with different fonts and colors and ultimately landed on a black and orange color scheme accompanied by a pale orange serif rustic font. Her conceptual choice for the end cover page was the left rendition. She completed some final tweaks and created a mockup example.

Stage 3 Photography and Photoshop

During this sketching process Bailey created a variety of thumbnails that were representative of the romantic couple using symbols that did not directly represent the physical attributes of the characters. Bailey’s final concept version resulted in a clenching hand tangled in Christmas lights.

During this process Bailey used her hand and a string of commercial Christmas lights to emulate the concepts in her sketches. She used a self timing camera and photoshop to convert the photo to greyscale and to fill in the Halloween color scheme in the lights.
